Birmingham City’s 1984/85 season was a difficult one in the First Division. Managed by Ron Saunders, the Blues struggled throughout the campaign and were ultimately relegated, finishing 20th out of 22 teams.
Despite some spirited performances at St Andrew’s, Birmingham lacked consistency and attacking threat, scoring just 39 goals in 42 league games. Key players included Mick Harford, Tony Coton, and Robert Hopkins, but the squad’s thin depth and defensive lapses proved costly.
They also endured an early exit from both domestic cups. The relegation ended a three-year stay in the top flight, prompting a rebuilding phase as the club aimed to bounce back from a disappointing campaign.
